Evolving the Raging Sea - Aydenn Wardle

Aydenn take a look at how you could make a starter deck a tournament level deck by changing a few cards and not spending more then £15.00 including the cost of the starter deck. How great is that!?.

What do we get when we start with the Diamond and Pearl:Stormfront theme deck Raging Sea?.

Raging Sea
1x Gyarados
4x Magikarp
1x Sceptile
2x Grovyle
4x Treecko
1x Abomasnow
4x Snover
2x Bibarel
4x Bidoof
2x Finneon
2x Switch
2x Potion
2x Mom's Kindness
2x Energy Switch
2x Dusk Ball
1x Luxury Ball
15x Water Energy
9x Grass Energy

The deck is based on the brutal Gyarados. Its awesome because its a great all round Pokemon. First it has 130 Hp and a 3 cost retreat so it's bas stats are good but it the attacks that make it. The first attack, Tail Revenge, cost's nothing to attack. It does 30 damage for each magikarp in your discard pile. So you can hit for, if your lucky, 90 damage by having 3 magikarp in your discard pile.

Gyarados second attack, Wreak Havoc, costs one water energy and one of any other colour. It has a base damage of 40 and has the effect of 'Flip a coin until you get tails. For each heads, discard the top card from your opponent's deck. This is card is great for locking down what your opponent can draw and also can give you a chance to find any sneaky combo's in your opponent's deck.

And Gyarados final attack is awesome its called Dragon Beat. It cost's two water energy and 3 of any colour and its base damage is 100. This is great however the attack does cost a lot BUT the effect of the attack is excellent. 'Flip a coin. If heads, discard an energy card from each of your opponent's Pokemon. Again this just limits what your opponent can do and also just makes them work harder.

First thing is you get four Magikarps in the deck already so thats no problem. However you only get 1 gyarados which is not good. I would advise getting another one and have two in the deck. You get four Treecko's which is fine i see no problem with that. Two Grovyle's which i think you would need one more.

You also only get one Sceptile. You would have to get one more just becuase it would make the balance of the deck better. Sceptile lets you move energy's attached to your pokemon around and attach them to your other pokemon. This is a key part of this deck because of Gyarados high energy cost.

In the deck you also get four Snover's and one Abomasnow i personally would take them out because i think that the number of Pokemon in the deck should be a small amount because you dont want Pokemon clogging up your deck. You get my personal favourite cards which are Bidoof's and Bibarel. For me a would get two more Bibarel's because you only get two (four Bidoof's) and Bibarel is really good because it hits for 60 damage for only two water energy and also has 100 health which is really nice.

You get two Finneon but no Lumineon so take out the Finneon and put two rare candy's in which is a trainer card that lets you skip evolution stages. For example you could play Treecko, play rare candy and evolve straight into Sceptile which saves effort and also helps in getting your big Pokemon out quicker which is always helpful.

Then what i would simply do is get rid of five water energy and four grass energy and put in four poke-radar's, two quick ball's and three Felicity's drawings. Also i would take out the Potion's and replace them with Roseanne's research.

Poke-radar = Trainer card = Look at the top 5 cards of your deck and choose as many Pokemon as you see and add them to your hand and shuffle the rest back into your deck.

Quick ball = Trainer card = Reveal cards from your deck until you reveal a pokemon and add it to your hand. Shuffle the rest back into your deck.

Felicity's drawings = Supporter = Discard 1 card to draw 3 or Discard 2 to draw 4.

Roseanne's Research = Supporter = Search your deck for 2 basic pokemon or 2 energys or one of each.

The last little change i would make is take out energy switch and put in the pokemon Lunatone which lets you discard one card from your hand. This is great because you can discard Magikarp to help boost damage for Gyarados.

Raging Sea v2 – Aydenn Wardle
2x Gyarados
4x Magikarp
2x Sceptile
3x Grovyle
4x Treecko
4x Bibarel
4x Bidoof
2x Lunatone
4x Poke-radar
3x Felicity's Drawings
2x Switch
2x Rosannes Research
2x Mom's Kindness
2x Rare Candy
2x Quick Ball
2x Dusk Ball
1x Luxury Ball
10x Water Energy
5x Grass Energy

For me this would work really well and hasn't got just one way to win. Its simple and cheap but remember this is just what i think if you think of a better alternatives please contact me on the forum.

Have fun
